With Impressionist art, we see a detachment from a focus to accurate detail and drift to a style that focuses on an impression of what we see with our eyes. What our eyes see is more important than what our brain retains. Vibrant time lapses shown through color are brought to life through small brush strokes. The lighting and color takes center stage. Renaissance and Baroque.

The School of Athens. The painting above is the "The School of Athens", painted by Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, or Raphael of Urbino, a small but significant city in central Italy. It was painted between 1501 - 1509 as part of commission work for the Apostolic Palace in The Vatican. Today, the rooms in which these works reside are called the Stanze di Raffaello. It is considered to be "Raphael's masterpiece, as well as a perfect embodiment of the classical spirit of the Renaissance". Philosophy, or the sciences, poetry, justice, and theology. These are the four bases of human knowledge that Raphael painted that represent the essence of the Renaissance, being a period of over all rebirth and advancement in those four areas. Drowning Girl/One

Drowning girl (1968) is a painting by Roy Lichtenstein. It is an oil on canvas as well as synthetic polymer paint on canvas. The painting is an example of pop art, and is done in a comic book fashion. This is shown by the flat colors, the appearance of an inker and text in a word bubble. I personally would never have known that this was a painting if I didn't read about it. At first glance I thought it was from a comic book. "Downing Girl" has been depicted as a "masterpiece of melodrama", and shows us a woman in peril while refusing to call a man known as "Brad" for help. It's in my opinion that this painting is a playful statement that feminism is on the rise, and that male dominance is going to have its day.
